This is part of uOpen’s ‘Meet The Maker’ interview series - your exclusive opportunity to get to know the real people and personalities behind the subscription boxes you know and love, and the ones you will soon come to!
Discover the fascinating stories behind how your favourite subscriptions originally came to be, the marvellous people involved in lovingly creating and curating each box, plus a few ‘behind the scenes’ snaps.
What sparked your decision to start up your box and how did you get started?
The Pip Box was founded in 2016 after I decided to go cruelty-free with my cosmetics, shortly after my lovely puppy Pip became a part of my family. I started The Pip Box to help other beauty lovers do the same, creating a box of ethical beauty treats which also donates 50p to an animal-friendly charity for every box sold.
Describe your box in three words?
Kind. Ethical. Fun.
Where did your box name come from?
The box is named after my lovely dog Pippa. Originally, it was a placeholder, while I thought up a better name, however, once we were ready to launch the name 'The Pip Box' had become so familiar we decided to keep it. It suited our brand mission, and Pip was our inspiration after all.
Are you a creator or curator?
What was your most popular box?
Our first birthday box back in February 2018.
How many people are involved with producing your subscription box?
Just me as the core team member. I also have a small packing and marketing team.
Which subscription boxes do you subscribe to?
I use Protect My Pet for Pip - it's a great way to keep her up-to-date with her flea and worming treatments.
Name a celebrity subscriber you’d love to have as a customer?
Leona Lewis, because she is such a great animal rights campaigner.
If you could put anything in your box, with money or scarcity no object, what would it be?
A puppy for every subscriber!
What do you love about uOpen?
It brings the whole subscription box family together!
