This is part of uOpen’s ‘Meet The Maker’ interview series - your exclusive opportunity to get to know the real people and personalities behind the subscription boxes you know and love, and the ones you will soon come to!
Discover the fascinating stories behind how your favourite subscriptions originally came to be, the marvellous people involved in lovingly creating and curating each box, plus a few ‘behind the scenes’ snaps.
What sparked your decision to start up your box and how did you get started?
I was putting on weight, eating bad food, feeling tired and sluggish, so I started to study nutrition. My mum had been very ill many years before, and she could see similar signs in me. It was a struggle to change, but over the last few years I have reduced my processed food intake, soft drinks and studied more about health.
Many people talked about various diets, but the common theme was eat natural food, from mother earth i.e. fruits and vegetables, so I took this onboard. One day I came across the ultimate in vegetables which was microgreens as they have upto 40 times the nutritional value in them.
I first learned how to grow them, and put them into my diet, and I saw a big increase in my health, and mental well being.
After my weight improved, I felt so inspired I wanted to share the health benefits of microgreens plus promote how simply delicious they are on any meal or even as a meal themselves. Just a sprinkle is a great start to any meal, but the more you can use them in any meal the better.
I then noticed many of my customers wanted repeat orders, so it was a natural choice to launch a subscription service.
